The Construction Record podcast: Episode 155: Scott Chatterton on BIM and building with wood

Journal Of Commerce Image Journal Of Commerce

This week on the Construction Record podcast digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with BIM One BIM/VDC solutions director Scott Chatterton about how building information modeling (BIM) and wood building design can work together in future.

Chatterton pointed out that wood is an ideal material in an industry where modularization, prefabrication and off-site construction is increasing at a rapid pace. BIMOne and SCIUS Advisory have developed Building Information Modelling for Wood Buildings: An introductory Guide which focuses on sustainable and modern methods of construction including wood technology.

He also noted that wood’s greatest benefit is carbon capture and not only is this a benefit in deconstruction but when reusing wood material for new structures. Wood buildings also tend to have longer lifespans making them even more sustainable, he noted.

You can listen to The Construction Record and TCR Express on the Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce websites as well as on Apple PodcastsSpotify and Amazon Music’s podcast, and you can listen to last week’s special podcast in partnership with the Ontario General Contractors Association featuring an interview with Maple Reinders Corp. president Harold Reinders about becoming a safety champion.
