On this episode of the Construction Record podcast, digital media editor Warren Frey speaks with Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario representative Mulisius Joe about her efforts to make the Ontario construction industry more diverse and inclusive through recruitment of the next generation of apprentices.
Joe, who has worked in the industry for more than a decade and entered the industry through an apprenticeship, said she’s seen a shift in attitudes as well as a rise in diverse hires in the workforce. She said when she started in the industry she was one of two women on the worksite and that a shift has occurred in work culture where others will step up when they see bad or questionable behaviour or attitudes.
