It’s the conclusion of our national Cracks in the Foundation: Mental Health, Substance Use and Construction feature series, and we’re marking it with the second of a special two-part series of Construction Record podcast episodes.
In our first episode Journal of Commerce staff writer Russell Hixson talked to ironworker and project supervisor Rob Trymbulak, counsellor Julian Toy and HeroWork Victoria executive director Trevor Botkin about their individual experiences with substance use and when they knew they had to make a dramatic life change in order to survive.
In this episode Russell inquires about their recovery journeys, what they’ve learned and how things have improved for them and for others in their professional and personal lives as they move beyond substance use.
Russell also spoke to Vancouver Island Construction Association president Rory Kumala about efforts being made by his organization to increase harm reduction and help those in the construction industry to their own paths of recovery.
You can listen to The Construction Record and TCR Express on the Daily Commercial News and Journal of Commerce websites as well as on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and Amazon Music’s podcast section and we recommend also listening to both part one of this podcast series and our recent interview with BCCSA president Mike McKenna and Work To Wellness founder Diana Vissers about the Re-Mind mental health resource site here. Thanks for listening and we’ll see you next week.
