Ottawa approves three mixed-use developments

OTTAWA — The Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre will be getting a makeover.

City of Ottawa Council recently approved amendments to its official plan and zoning bylaw allowing for the mixed-use redevelopment of Elmvale Acres, located at 1910 St. Laurent Blvd.

The proposed development by RioCan offers 570 residential units and approximately 13,410 square metres of retail space as well as pedestrian-friendly access to green space and connections to transit, indicates a release from the city.

If approved, construction of the first phase could begin in 2018.

Council also approved a zoning amendment which will permit construction of a 24-storey, mixed-use development at 809 Richmond Rd., which is currently home to Kristy’s Family Restaurant.

The plan calls for retail space on the ground floor and approximately 240 residential units above.

The site is located close to Cleary Avenue, the future home of the Cleary light rail transit station.

Lastly, a zoning amendment was also approved by council to allow construction of a three-storey, mixed-use building at the intersection of Manotick Main Street and Maple Avenue.

The applicant has worked closely with the community, the ward councillor and city planning staff to ensure the building will complement Manotick’s heritage character while incorporating modern design, adds the release.
