TORONTO — Applications are now being accepted for the next round of the Connecting Links program.
Connecting links are municipal roads or bridges that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing, indicates a bulletin issued by Ontario’s Ministry of Transportation.
Applications are due by Nov. 3 and funding for the connecting link projects that are selected will begin in the spring of 2018.
There are about 350 kilometres of roads and 70 bridges along connecting links in 77 municipalities across Ontario.
The program funding covers up to 90 per cent of eligible project costs, to a maximum of $3 million including the design, construction, renewal, rehabilitation and replacement of connecting links infrastructure.
Ontario will update the Connecting Links program guide to allow some road widening projects to be eligible.
The province provided $20 million in 2016-17 to support 23 Connecting Links projects and $25 million in 2017-18 to support 19 projects across Ontario.
Funding for the Connecting Links program will increase to $30 million for 2018–19 and beyond.
"The roads and bridges in municipalities that connect two ends of a provincial highway through a community or to a border crossing, support an integrated transportation system and are vital to both safety and the economy," said Minister of Transportation Steven Del Duca, in a statement.
