Saskatoon to modernize vehicle fleet

SASKATOON, SASK. – The City of Saskatoon’s council has voiced support for their Facilities and Fleet Management Division’s capital project initiative to outfit Global Positioning Systems (GPS) into all civic vehicles.

GPS systems are estimated to potentially save $500,000 in fuel costs and help contribute to greenhouse gas emission reductions. Upon award of tender for the project, implementation is expected to begin by mid-2018. Planning for the installation will involve all city unions and associations.
“We’re committed to the safety of our employees, protecting our assets and improving civic operations. GPS will assist with driver safety and working alone scenarios, and will also offer reporting and trending data to enable us to be more efficient in our dispatching and utilization of our vehicles and equipment,” said Troy LaFreniere, facilities and fleet management director, in a statement.
