Governments fund wastewater system for Shippagan, N.B.

SHIPPAGAN, N.B. — The town of Shippagan, N.B., will be getting close to $340,000 in joint federal and provincial funding for a new wastewater infrastructure project.

Thanks to this investment by the governments of Canada and New Brunswick, the Town of Shippagan will construct a sanitary sewer on Tom Street to improve wastewater management, maintain clean waterways and support a healthy community, explains a release.

“This investment will ensure the construction of critical infrastructure that will have a lasting and positive impact on the quality of life of the residents of this municipality,” said Wilfred Roussel, minister of agriculture, mines and rural affairs, in a statement.

The investment is part of an agreement between Canada and New Brunswick for the Clean Water and Wastewater Fund.

“We are particularly proud to be able to do the necessary work for our residents who do not yet have access to sanitary sewer services,” added Anita Savoie Robichaud, mayor of the Town of Shippagan.

“This funding will also help those who are experiencing problems with their septic systems,”
