Engagement plan unveiled for new Ottawa library facility

OTTAWA — The City of Ottawa, Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada have announced a civic engagement program to encourage the community to contribute ideas for the design of the new Ottawa Public Library and Library and Archives Canada joint facility.

Diamond Schmitt Architects and Ottawa’s KWC Architects have been retained to design the joint facility, which will be located at 555 Albert St. at the western edge of downtown Ottawa, five blocks from Parliament, on the new LRT line at Pimisi Station, said a recent statement.

The facility is set to open in 2024.

The engagement process has been branded as the Inspire555 Series. Events planned for 2019 include design workshops, pop-up events, lectures, online activities, local and national engagement and knowledge sharing with Indigenous communities.

Online contributions are encouraged at Inspire555.ca.

Phase One Building Blocks Design Workshops will be held Feb. 28 at Jean Pigott Place, Ottawa City Hall and March 2 at a location to be determined.
