McKibbon appointed Bird’s top executive

TORONTO — Bird Construction Inc. has announced that effective June 30, 2019, Ian Boyd will step down as the firm’s president and CEO to assume another role with the firm, with Terrance McKibbon, currently Bird’s COO, appointed the new president and CEO.

The June 4 statement noted that Boyd will stay with the firm as executive vice-president — major projects.

“In this new role, Mr. Boyd will provide senior executive leadership of the company’s major projects including securement, staffing, execution and profitability,” said the Bird release.

As top executive, McKibbon will provide overall executive leadership of the company’s business, strategic development and profitability including direct responsibility for the company’s district operations and all corporate functions, Bird said.

McKibbon joined Bird in June 2017 as COO, having over 30 years of experience in the construction industry including serving as CEO of Aecon.

Boyd joined Bird in 2008 and was appointed to the top executive position in 2015 after a 20-year career in operations, primarily in project management, including numerous large-scale design build and P3 projects.

“Bird Construction is fortunate to have two very experienced and capable senior executives, with complementary but different areas of expertise. As we continue along the path of the diversification strategy that we embarked on in 2016, we have determined that a realignment of the responsibilities of these two individuals will better support the continued execution of that strategy,” said Paul Charette, Bird’s chairman of the board, in the statement.
