TORONTO — Domio, a New York-based apartment-hotel startup, has announced plans to open an engineering office in Toronto.
The new location will serve as the company’s first expansion into Canada, as Domio aims to gain access to top technology and engineering talent in Toronto, according to a Nov. 14 release.
The firm describes its business model as being more tech-friendly than boutique hotels and its hotels feature ample square footage for group travel.
The Toronto team will be expanding Domio’s internal tools and machine learning efforts while building and automating new systems, said the release.
“Toronto is drawing the attention of the world for its emerging technology scene, vibrant culture and the way we live together as the most diverse city in North America,” said Toronto Mayor John Tory in the release. He recently met with Domio representatives in New York City.
“I’m thrilled that Domio will call Toronto home, create jobs for our talented residents and contribute to our reputation as a global centre for innovation and economic growth.”
Jay Roberts, CEO and co-founder of Domio said, “known for its dedication to innovation, talent development, culture, education and diversity, Toronto is the perfect partner to accelerate our technology roadmap.”
