Scott Brothers Entertainment seeks Canadian contractor in casting call for new HGTV series

Calling all contractors aspiring to be on TV, here’s your chance.

Scott Brothers Entertainment has put out a casting call for an outgoing, knowledgeable and fully licensed contractor in Canada to appear in a new HGTV show in development.

Scott Brothers, a production company based in Toronto, is owned by Drew and Jonathan Scott, also known as the Property Brothers. The brothers produce shows such as Property Brothers: Forever Home and Brother v. Brother. The details of the proposed new show have not been released yet.

“This would be a new show and it is still in development,” Nicole Chacra, casting producer, Scott Brothers Entertainment, wrote in an email to the Daily Commercial News. “Unfortunately, we cannot disclose more than that at this time.”

To qualify, individuals must be a fully licensed contractor; comfortable speaking about construction on camera; very personable, opinionated and great with people; and over 18 years of age.

“Our ideal candidate is a fully licensed contractor that is personable and great with people,” said Chacra. “It’s also a bonus if they are comfortable in front of the camera and are able to speak about construction in a confident way.”

No previous experience or special skills are required to apply.

“No television experience is necessary, but we are looking for only fully licensed contractors at this time as we’re looking for people that really know their stuff,” said Chacra. “We encourage anyone that is interested to apply online on our website.”

For now, interested parties can only apply online. Applicants will be asked to fill out a questionnaire and submit photos and videos of themselves.

“Since this is an on-camera role, we need to see what they would look like on camera and how comfortable they are speaking about themselves and a project,” Chacra explained.

There has already been some interest from the industry.

“People have started applying,” Chacra stated. “It seems to be very exciting to the industry. We’ve received a wide range of candidates with different specifications, which has been eye-opening and very exciting.”

Those who are chosen will be contacted once the show gets the green light from the network, Chacra said adding the timeline for the new show is up in the air as well. In making a decision, the team will consider a range of factors.

“Personality and knowledge of construction are the two biggest factors,” she said. “Viewers typically respond to people with energetic and fun personalities — but are still professional and still know what they are talking about when it comes to construction.”

While the company is using several methods to get the word out about the casting call, they are relying heavily on word-of-mouth, Chacra said.

“Although the construction industry is quite large throughout Canada, it’s also small in a lot of ways,” she noted. “We’re also finding that using social media to connect with those in the construction industry has been very helpful.”
