SNC-Lavalin has contract extended on ITER project

MONTREAL — SNC-Lavalin’s Atkins business has been awarded a five-year extension for its role as Architect Engineering for ITER, an international nuclear-fusion energy project underway in southern France.

ITER is billed as the world’s largest fusion-energy experiment, bringing together 35 countries. Atkins’s role involves the design and construction oversight of all the buildings, services and infrastructure of the site, said a Jan. 31 release. The contract is within SNCL Engineering Services.

Atkins is part of the Engage consortium, consisting of French groups Assystem and Egis as well as Spanish group Empresarios Agrupados.

The companies are working on the design, construction oversight and integration for 39 buildings, services including HVAC, electrical supplies, fire safety and mechanical handling, as well as the site-wide infrastructure including roads, networks and galleries.
