PCA and CLAC urge members to donate PPE to health care

TORONTOAs the Ontario government closes the vast majority of provincial businesses, including certain construction projects, the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA) is urging its members to put unused personal protective equipment (PPE) to the best possible use by donating it to front-line health care workers.

PCA and CLAC (Christian Labour Association of Canada) have teamed up to make an urgent appeal to member companies to donate unused equipment, including masks and face shields.

“As construction sites close, a new opportunity has opened up for our members to play a critical role in saving and protecting the lives of those on the front lines,” said Karen Renkema, vice-president, Ontario, for the Progressive Contractors Association of Canada (PCA). “As an industry its vital that we do everything we can to save lives, on and off construction sites.”

Today the province projected 1,600 COVID-19 deaths by the end of April unless more is done to contain the pandemic.

“CLAC represents as many as 8,000 front-line workers that need our help,” said Andrew Regnerus, CLAC construction coordinator. “If we pull together, we can make all the difference to those fighting day in and day out to save lives.”

PCA member companies have been urged to contact their nearest CLAC member centre to arrange for drop off or pickup.
