KICKASS CAREERS — KickAss Careers has developed a new colouring book to celebrate those working on the frontlines during the current COVID-19 pandemic. The book is titled All the Kids on Builder Street — Heroes Edition.

The contributions of frontline workers during the COVID-19 pandemic are being recognized in a new colouring book for kids.

The book is a spinoff of a skilled trades colouring book called All the Kids on Builder Street that teaches children about mechanical, industrial, technology and construction pathways and was released by KickAss Careers. The new creation, All the Kids on Builder Street — Heroes Edition, was the brainchild of KickAss Careers cofounder Jamie McMillan, and two U.S. business partners, Pat Williams, KickAss Careers co-founder, and Finn Pette, creative story teller and artist.

“We came up with the special issue of All the Kids On Builder Street — Heroes Edition colouring book to engage, educate and encourage young kids about the current situation with a little story and some simple pictures to help recognize and honour a few of our important frontline heroes,” McMillan told the Daily Commercial News in an email.

“It’s a great educational piece, conversation starter and engagement tool to keep children encouraged during this pandemic. We hope it will motivate some of them to consider these as future careers and to never forget the value of our essential workers,” said McMillan.

“It’s a simple message reminding adults and children alike that in times of crisis we know we can always depend on essential workers to keep us healthy, safe and keep our economy moving forward.”

McMillan was inspired to create the new book after watching the news on social media one day. She wanted to help children understand what is going on around them during this difficult time.

“It was nice to see the government giving some shoutouts to our essential workers, recognizing them as heroes,” she said. “It sparked an idea that perhaps a little booklet could be put together to highlight a few essential workers with a simple storyline to engage and educate kids about the current situation in a fun and encouraging way. I’m sure parents are looking for things to keep their children occupied during this challenging time. It is a great way to teach children to respect and value essential workers.”

When she shared the idea with her partners, the book came together quickly.

“Early the next morning, Finn was hard at work putting together the storyline with six pages for kids to colour highlighting why doctors, nurses, truckers, sales associates, firefighters and police officers are our heroes,” said McMillan. “Within a few hours Pat and I did some tweaking, finalized the layout and storyline and sent it off to our website designer Julie Dulong to make available as a free download on the website.”

Anyone can access and download the book for free at kickasscareers.org.

“To all who are working, we want to send out a big thank you for being out on the frontlines,” McMillan added. “We have nothing but respect for our essential workers who are doing a fantastic job. Stay safe and healthy.”
