TORONTO — The leaders of the Electrical Contractors Association of Ontario (ECAO) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) Construction Council of Ontario released a joint message to their members May 20 urging them to keep their feet on the gas pedal to maintain health and safety on jobsites as the construction sector resumed work in Ontario.
As of May 19, restrictions on non-essential construction work were removed by the Ford government.
The video messages were posted back to back by IBEW CCO executive secretary treasurer James Barry and Graeme Aitken, the ECAO’s executive director.
“I would like to personally thank the ECAO, our industry partners, as we work through the COVID-19 crisis and the construction industry,” said Barry. “I think it is critically important that we continue to be vigilant to follow Ministry of Labour, Training and Skills Development guidelines as it pertains to the construction industry as well as all protocols put in place by your employer and the general contractor on your specific worksite.
“You must continue to treat this virus with extreme caution in the day and months ahead. Be safe.”
Aitken said he was gratified that IBEW members and business managers had worked hard to stay safe leading to the restart of construction.
“Thank you for all you have done to keep yourself safe, your workers safe and keeping this industry running,” he said.
“Remember don’t take your foot off the gas pedal, we are not through this yet. Take care of yourself and take care of each other.”
A Brilliant idea from someone that has a nice clean safe controlled office
to advise others from.
