TORONTO — Toronto’s Sunnybrook Health Sciences Centre has reported that Maystar General Contractors of Woodbridge, Ont. has submitted the low bid of $101.07 million among bidders invited to compete for the contract to build the new Garry Hurvitz Brain Sciences Centre at Sunnybrook.
Next was REA Construction, with a bid of $102.7 million. Turner Construction submitted a bid of $110.1 million, Walsh Canada’s bid was $129.597 million and Elite Construction submitted a bid of $154.9 million.
The project involves a renovation and addition to existing facilities at Sunnybrook, states a Sept. 2 report from ConstructConnect’s research department.
Completed plans call for the addition of a 115,000-square-foot, three-storey above-grade structure with an additional storey below grade, and for the renovation of a 5,000-square-foot medical facility.
The new Brain Centre for inpatient and ambulatory patient care will be built in an open grass area at the Sunnybrook Bayview Campus on Bayview Avenue, surrounded on three sides by existing buildings E and F Wing.
The project will also include the structural capacity to accommodate future building growth, one storey at a time if required, to a total eight-storey structure plus penthouse. The basement level will be all new mechanical and electrical space.
Last year the provincial government announced it would be allocating $60 million towards the project.
As part of the bid process, all prequalified general contractors and subcontractors were required attend a mandatory formal briefing meeting and site tour on June 16.
