UPS opens package facility in Caledon 

UPS Canada announced this morning that its new 850,000-square-foot package sorting and delivery facility is up and running in Caledon, Ont. Earlier this year, UPS opened a 180,000-square-foot expansion at its Montreal facility and in November 2018 the company unveiled a new facility in Kanata, Ont. UPS has also expanded its package centres in Brampton and London, Ont. and Edmonton. 

 

StatsCan reports on infrastructure life cycle 

Watch for Statistics Canada reports on the Stock and Consumption of Fixed Capital, 2019, and Remaining Useful Service Life Ratios of Non-residential Capital Stock, 2018, to be published Nov. 19. The New Housing Price Index for October 2020 will be released Nov. 20. 

 

REM project office unveils cars 

Montreal’s Reseau express metropolitain (REM) project office hosted a virtual unveiling of the first REM light rail cars this morning on Facebook. The project is using Alstom-built Metropolis trains. Another major milestone was reached by the project office and its partners, NouvLR and GPMM, recently as all the infrastructure on the South Shore was pronounced ready to receive the first cars. The next step is the trial and test period for the cars that will soon be operating on the South Shore.  

 

ICLR chronicles potential Vancouver earthquake disruption 

A study released Friday by the Institute for Catastrophic Loss Reduction (ICLR) finds that more than $10 billion in fire damage could result following a severe earthquake in the Vancouver area. However, the report finds that losses could be reduced significantly through investments in a regional Portable Water Supply System for Vancouverarea fire services, the provision of emergency firefighting water supplies for highrise buildings and the inclusion of seismic shutoff valves in all gas meters in at-risk areas.  

 

Demand Power starts work on Collingwood project 

Demand Power Group Inc. this morning announced that construction has commenced on a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system for AGNORA, a large-scale architectural glass fabricator and customer service company shipping glass throughout North America. The new partnership will see Demand Power Group Inc. install a UPS at AGNORA’s 225,000squarefoot production facility in Collingwood, Ont.
