Ausenco lands construction contract with Argonaut Gold
Argonaut Gold Inc. announced this morning it has executed a fixed bid engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning contract with Ausenco Engineering Canada Inc. for the construction of the Magino processing facility and other parts of the Magino project located 200 kilometres north of Sault Ste. Marie in northern Ontario. The contract totals approximately 40 per cent of Magino’s initial capital estimate of between $480 million and $510 million.
Russel Metals acquires Sanborn of Wisconsin
Mississauga, Ont.-based metals processor and distributor Russel Metals Inc. today announced it has closed its acquisition of Sanborn Tube Sales of Wisconsin, Inc. Sanborn distributes metal products including steel and energy pipes, tubes and valves along with other tubular products throughout North America. The Sanborn operation, based in Pewaukee, Wisc., deals in carbon, stainless steel, aluminum, and copper and brass tubing as well as custom aluminum extrusions.
Bergeron elected ESA chair
The board of directors of Ontario’s Electrical Safety Authority (ESA) today announced it has elected Annette Bergeron of Napanee, Ont. as chair to succeed Peter Gregg. Bergeron was appointed to the ESA board six years ago and currently chairs the people and culture and governance committee. She was previously president of Engineers Canada and the Professional Engineers of Ontario and currently runs Bergeron Consulting.
Legal blog analyzes Alberta’s Zerbin case
The latest blog by Stephen Thiele of the Toronto-based law firm Gardiner Roberts highlights the 2020 Alberta case of Zerbin v. Vrbanek to illustrate how homebuilding projects can go badly awry. In an article published Dec. 28, Thiele focuses on when a court can impose personal liability against a director or officer of a company and on the application of the defences of truth or justification and qualified privilege in a defamation action.
