Demolition work on Highway 1 underpass begins
SHUTTERSTOCK

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. — Work is starting on the demolition of the Fern Street underpass as part of the Highway 1 Lower Lynn Improvement Project.

B.C. officials announced starting this month there will be five nights of construction work to demolish the underpass. Officials added appropriate detours will be in place to maintain highway traffic through the area.

Westbound traffic will be diverted through the Mount Seymour Exit (Exit 22B) towards a left turn at the intersection of Lillooet Road and Mount Seymour Parkway before merging back onto Highway 1.

Eastbound traffic will be diverted through the Mountain Highway off-ramp (Exit 21) to Brooksbank Avenue, before a left turn onto Main Street. Continuing on Main Street, traffic will be directed to take the on-ramp at the north end of the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge to merge back onto Highway 1.

This work is part of the Highway 1 Lower Lynn Improvement Project. The project is expected to decrease commute times and improve safety for drivers, pedestrians and cyclists going to and from the region’s popular North Shore.
