Bird, Stack win modular award 

Stack Modular and Bird Construction have announced they have received a first-place award from the Modular Building Institute in the Permanent Modular Hotel Over 10,000 Square Feet category for their work on the Aqsarniit Hotel and Conference Centre in Iqaluit. The property is owned by the Qikiqtaaluck Business Development Corporation and features 94 rooms, a 5,000-square-foot conference centre, lounge, restaurant, gym, spa and commercial space.

 

Cape Breton field to get accessibility upgrade 

Three levels of government today announced funding for phase one of the redevelopment of Hawks Dream Field in Dominion, N.S. into a fully accessible recreation space. Once completed, the baseball park will include accessible dugouts, an infield where wheelchairs can round the bases, charging docks for motorized mobility aids and accessible bleachers. The federal government is contributing $400,000 to the project, the Government of Nova Scotia is allocating $333,000 and the Regional Municipality of Cape Breton is spending $266,000.

 

ULI to discuss Minister’s Zoning Orders in Ontario 

The Toronto chapter of the Urban Land Institute will hold a forum to discuss the expanded use of Minister’s Zoning Orders (MZO) in Ontario tomorrow. In 2020, the minister of municipal affairs issued more than 30 MZOs, compared to no MZOs in 2017 and 2018. The virtual event starts at noon.

 

Ford, Elliott, Lecce to make announcement 

Ontario Premier Doug Ford has scheduled an announcement for 2:30 p.m. this afternoon. He will be joined by Minister of Health Christine Elliott, Minister of Education Stephen Lecce and Dr. David Williams, chief medical officer of health.
