CISC to launch Built by Canadians Initiative

The Canadian Institute of Steel Construction is launching the Built by Canadians initiative, which will focus on several key areas. These include:

RHI program to fund housing in Etobicoke, Nova Scotia

The federal government through the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and the City of Toronto yesterday announced details of a $30.5-million plan to start immediate construction of 113 affordable homes through the Major Cities Stream of the Rapid Housing Initiative (RHI). The units will be part of a modular supportive housing build located at 75 Tandridge Ct. in Toronto’s Etobicoke community and will provide housing for those who are experiencing or are at risk of experiencing homelessness, including women and Black Canadians. The federal government also announced $2.73 million in funding through the RHI program to build 20 units of housing for the Sipekne’katik First Nation in Nova Scotia yesterday.

WLI Toronto to hold cities Reset Symposium

The Women’s Leadership Initiative Toronto has announced it will hold a Reset Symposium to explore ideas for “building back better.” The event will be held May 19 at 8:30 a.m. and is intended to solicit diverse views from planners, designers, developers, builders, investors, feminists, economists, urbanists, organizers and citizens.

Raboud appointed Bird chairman

Bird Construction has announced that Paul Raboud has been appointed chairman of the board. Raboud was the vice-chair of Bird until his retirement from that position in March 2017. He joined Bird in 1984 and was appointed a director in September 2008.
