Canada and Nova Scotia invest in health and long-term care
The federal and Nova Scotia governments have announced funding for seven projects that will renovate and rehabilitate several health and long-term care facilities. These include the Yarmouth Regional Hospital, Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Colchester East Hants Health Centre, Glace Bay Hospital, Nova Scotia Hospital and Veterans Memorial Building, Valley Regional Hospital and Aberdeen Hospital. Upgrades are also slated for 33 long-term care facilities across the province. In total, 39 projects will undergo building and system upgrades. The Government of Canada is investing over $11.4 million and the Government of Nova Scotia is contributing more than $2.8 million.
Agreement reached on Lac‑Megantic Rail Bypass Project
The Government of Canada and Canadian Pacific Railway company have signed an agreement that essentially allows the Lac-Megantic rail bypass project to move forward. According to a release, this is an important step towards obtaining the necessary plans, specifications and regulatory authorization to complete this project. The agreement also includes several studies in the coming weeks on soil, water and fish habitat quality and on ambient noise levels. A virtual information session will also be held with property owners to answer their questions. The project is expected to be completed in 2023.
Experts meet to discuss creative solutions to address training needs
On May 27 Riipen hosted a panel of business and education leaders to discuss Ontario’s workforce strategy moving out of the pandemic. The panel highlighted the importance of providing opportunities for reskilling to keep up with the changing demands of the workforce and the critical role that work-integrated learning will play in the province’s post-pandemic economic recovery. Joining the event was Monte McNaughton, minister of labour, training and skills development.
