Nexii builds first sustainably constructed Popeye’s restaurant
Canadian green construction technology company Nexii Building Solutions Inc. announced it has partnered with the Popeye’s fast food chain to deliver the brand’s first sustainably constructed restaurant in Abbotsford, B.C. The building was completed in less than two weeks and Nexii estimates ongoing carbon emissions will be reduced by 30 per cent due to the assembly process and use of building materials such as the company’s own Nexiite.
Construction law firm opens Vancouver office
Global law firm Clyde & Co has announced it will open an office in Vancouver after agreeing to merge with local firm SHK Law Corporation. SHK is an insurance, construction and professional disputes-focused firm with an emphasis on E&O and D&O, product liability, construction disputes and commercial litigation. The agreement is effective July 1.
City of Edmonton invests in affordable First Nations housing
The City of Edmonton is investing $103.7 million in grant funding to create 124 units of below-market affordable housing. The successful applicants, Avana Rentals, Right at Home Housing Society, and Treaty 8 First Nations of Alberta Holdings Ltd., will each receive funding for up to 25 per cent of capital costs. The investment is part of the $133 million Affordable Housing Investment Plan launched in 2018 with the goal of creating 2,500 new or refurbished units of affordable housing by 2022.
