SUDBURY, ONT.—Sudbury, Ont.-based Podco recently announced it has been selected as a service provider in the Open Innovation Challenge presented by NORCAT in partnership with Vale.
Podco was the successful applicant among firms invited to develop a technology solution to deal with the problem of uncontrolled water flows in mines. The technology will identify problems and mitigate conditions related to unwanted flooding, stated a release. Within four months Podco will endeavour to develop a proof-of-concept and then will commence in-the-field product testing at one of Vale’s Greater Sudbury operations to validate the solution.
“This is an exciting opportunity for Podco to showcase our experience and agile product development. I believe the collaboration between Podco and the Vale team will lead to the best possible solution,” said Podco founder Stephen Podrucky in a statement.
The innovation challenge is intended to identify companies with potential technology solutions to address challenging issues facing the global mining industry.
“Podco is a great example of an agile, innovative northern Ontario company that is bringing new technology, ideas and concepts to the mining industry, creating a safer and more productive mine,” said Brendan Skiffington, regional innovation coordinator of NORCAT.
