Highway of Heroes gets unveiled at Little Canada

TORONTO — Little Canada made a big announcement just ahead of Remembrance Day, honouring the Highway of Heroes and unveiling a miniature version of a bridge dedicated to Capt. Nichola Goddard, the first Canadian woman to die in combat.

Goddard was killed in Afghanistan in 2006. When she was repatriated her remains travelled along Highway 401 where people often line the bridges paying tribute to the fallen.

One of those bridges along the Highway of Heroes was dedicated to Goddard’s memory and is now being featured at Little Canada, a Toronto attraction that celebrates Canada through miniature creations of famous landmarks, iconic cityscapes and scenic landscapes under one roof.

On hand for the Nov. 9 unveiling were Jean-Louis Brenninkmeijer, the founder of Little Canada, Canadian Armed Forces veterans and Nick Booth, chief executive officer of the True Patriot Love Foundation.

Founded in 2009, the True Patriot Love Foundation raises awareness around the challenges related to military service and funds programs across the country that support serving members of the Canadian Armed Forces, veterans and their families, states a release.

During the unveiling, the Ontario government announced an investment of more than $529,000 through the True Patriot Love Foundation to support its services.
