Stantec acquires four North American firms

Journal Of Commerce

Stantec Inc has acquired four different Canadian and U.S. engineering and architectural firms.

Corporate Acquisition

Stantec Inc has acquired four different engineering and architectural firms in both Canada and the United States.

Stantec Inc. announced the acquisition of R.D. Zande of Columbus, Ohio and Fuller, Mossbarger, Scott & May (FMSM) Engineers of Lexington, Kentucky on December 5, 2007.

By acquiring FMSM, Stantec gains a new practice area and access to U.S. government clients, including the Corps of Engineers and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA).

“We have been looking to add an appropriate geotechnical engineering practice and FMSM adds expertise in several specialty engineering areas including dams, levees, and underwater structures that complement our existing services,” said Tony Franceschini, Stantec President & CEO in a press release.

The acquisition of Zande and FMSM adds more than 600 employees to Stantec’s workforce. The transaction should be completed in early January 2008. R.D. Zande and FMSM had gross revenues of approximately US$29 million and US$36 million in 2006.

Stantec also announced the acquisition of Toronto-based Murphy Hilgers Architects Inc. and Victoria-based Moore Paterson Architects Inc. By acquiring Murphy Hilgers, Stantec gains a 55-person firm specializing in healthcare, justice, and retail/commercial facilities and creates one of the largest architecture firms in Toronto with more than 100 staff.

Moore Paterson Architects is a 17-person firm offering a range of expertise in planning, design and building of health care and justice facilities in British Columbia.

Stantec Inc., an Edmonton-based engineering and design firm, has about 7,500 employees working from more than 100 locations in North America.
