Edmonton construction crane topples onto powerlines

Workers at an Edmonton construction site are safe following a crane collapse.

According to Edmonton Fire Rescue Services, crews received a call at 1:13 p.m. Tuesday reporting a crane collapse that had hit some power lines. Fire crews arrived on scene at 1:17 p.m. and requested ATCO attend the scene as well to respond to the affected power lines.

City officials stated that all site workers safely evacuated and there were no reported injuries.

The collapse occurred at a residential apartment site situated at 120 Street and 102 Avenue in the community of Oliver.

Following the incident EPCOR announced two power outages in the area affecting roughly 3,300 customers. EPCOR stated the outages were caused by a “vehicle hitting equipment.”
