VANCOUVER – A $50 million revamping of the Granville Bridge in Vancouver is set to begin this week.
During a press briefing on Feb. 8, Paul Storer, director of transportation for the City of Vancouver, said construction crews have been given the go ahead to start dismantling the east loop on the north end of the bridge.
As previously reported by the Journal of Commerce, the bridge will be undergoing significant reconstruction to enhance pedestrian accessibility and connect it to the Arbutus Greenway, remove the underutilized north loops and build new street connections on both ends of the bridge.
Construction is set to continue through the year and the tentative end date for the current work is mid-2024.
Two-lanes heading both directions will be kept open throughout the entire project, Storer said.
Starting this summer, Granville Street north of the Howe and Seymour Street ramps will be closed for up to six months. However, the ramps will remain open ensuring access to downtown remains, according to a news release.
