DHL Express opens $84.5 million Atlanta Hub
DHL EXPRESS AMERICAS — DHL Express Americas has opened an $84.5 million Atlanta hub at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

PLANTATION, FLA. – Shipping giant DHL Express has announced the opening of its $84.5 million Atlanta hub.

The Americas region hub is based at the Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and the 100,000-square-foot facility will establish direct connections between 19 cities in the southeastern U.S. and key global markets, including Europe and major DHL hubs worldwide.

Future plans involve adding flight connections to Hong Kong, Mexico, the U.K. and Puerto Rico, a DHL release stated.

“The new DHL Express Atlanta Hub represents a milestone in our ongoing pursuit of sustainability and technological advancement. It also exemplifies our belief in the power of international trade and recognizes the significance of Atlanta and the southeast U.S. in the global marketplace,” DHL Express Americas CEO Mike Parra said in a statement.

The Atlanta hub will generate up to 50 per cent of its onsite energy through 65,000-square-feet of rooftop solar panels with remaining energy consumed onsite sourced from renewable sources through renewable energy certificates that guarantee zero emissions from electricity consumption, the release stated.

The hub is a fully automated facility and can sort up to 20,000 pieces per hour, the release said, and will use in-house customs brokers and collaborate onsite with U.S. Customs and Border Protection personnel.
