New parkade on the way for University Hospital of Northern BC

PRINCE GEORGE, B.C. – Construction of a new parkade for the University Hospital of Northern BC (UHNBC) in Prince George, B.C. is in the works with the approval of an early works agreement.

A 471-space parkade will be built at the hospital next to the BC Cancer Centre For the North, followed by demolition of the NorthernInterior Health Unit to facilitate future site master plans.

“It is very exciting to see the early works beginning at UHNBC. The work beginning today will enable UHNBC to continue to improve access to services and supports that meet the higher-level care needs of Northerners,” Northen Health president and CEO Ciro Panessa said in a release.

Initial construction work is expected to begin in 2024 and be complete in 2025.

UHNBC was built in 1958 and was originally called Prince George Regional Hospital. Additions were completed in 1978 and 2003.
