Ontario students invited to enter urban design challenge

TORONTO — Consultants Urban Minds and Plan Bold are encouraging Ontario secondary school students to participate in an urban design competition called Design Jam.

The student competition is being held as part of the 1UP Toronto conference to take place March 23 and 24.

The 2024 conference theme is Thrive: Planning the Year-Round City, intended to encourage a dialogue between youth and city builders about how indoor and outdoor public spaces can support wellness among all citizens.

The four-hour Design Jam, to be held March 24, will offer a real-life urban challenge related to the conference theme. Students will be assigned into teams to develop a solution for a case challenge provided by a Design Jam partner.

To support the challenge, 1UP Toronto is inviting municipalities, architecture and planning firms, non-profits and other civic organizations to submit a project that can be used as a case challenge for the students.

For more information, review 1UP Toronto’s Call For Projects PDF. The deadline to apply is Feb. 2.
