Feds invest $70 million for small craft harbour repairs in New Brunswick

CAISSIE CAPE, N.B. — The federal government is providing a $70-million investment over three years to continue maintenance and repair work at 18 small craft harbours in New Brunswick.

As part of Budget 2024, $463.3 million over three years will be invested for the repair and maintenance of small craft harbours, including those damaged by Hurricane Fiona, starting in 2024-25, on top of Fisheries and Oceans Canada annual budget of $90 million for the harbours.

Over the next three years, the Cap-des Caissie harbour will receive a new wharf, improvements to armourstone protection, basin dredging and improvements to the containment cell, which holds sediment from dredging.

More than $23.5 million of the overall investment in New Brunswick will also be used to reconstruct and repair piers, breakwater and other critical harbour infrastructure at six harbours that sustained serious damage from Hurricane Fiona, indicates a release.
