Feds put more than $172 million toward 4,257 Alberta affordable homes

EDMONTON – The Government of Canada has announced it will put more than $172 million in contributions and low-cost loans through the Affordable Housing Fund (AHF) to help build and repair 4,257 affordable homes in Alberta.

The funding will go towards construction of 772 new homes with repairs planned for 3,485 homes.

The AHF provides funding through low-interest and/or forgivable loans or contributions to help build new affordable homes and renovate and repair existing, affordable and community housing, a Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation release said.

Some projects receiving funding under the AHF include 213 units at Rosenthal Flats in Edmonton with $64.1 million; 138 units at Iinii’toyis in Lethbridge with $34.97 million; $12.5 million for 206 units at the Pine Valley complex in Hinton; $6.3 million for 63 units at #17 Folkstone Place in Stoney Plain; and $6 million for 50 units at the Pleasantview Seniors Housing Project in High Prairie.
