Mighty Canadian Minebuster gets a makeover
CANADA’S WONDERLAND — Recently Priestly Demolition Inc. removed 1,000 feet of track from the Mighty Canadian Minebuster wooden roller-coaster at Canada’s Wonderland in Vaughan, Ont. to allow for a new track to be installed later this year.

VAUGHAN, ONT. — If you’ve been to Canada’s Wonderland then you know the Mighty Canadian Minebuster in all its rickety wood-frame roller-coaster glory.

But even some classics need a refresh.

Recently Priestly Demolition Inc. (PDI) removed 1,000 feet of track from the Minebuster to allow for a new track to be installed later this year.

Standing at about 90-feet in height the roller-coaster required the crew to be equipped with fall arrest equipment in order to safely climb down to each section and create cut points to facilitate the removal, explains the company in a recent social media post.

“Using a combination of hand tools and a 50T crane the team hoisted each section into trailers for proper disposal,” the post reads. “The PDI team completed the operation with a strong focus on safety, precision, and efficiency.”

The Minebuster is one of three wooden roller-coasters at the amusement park. It’s one of the original four roller-coasters that were at the park when it opened in 1981 and is the longest single-track wooden coaster in Canada at 3,559 feet.

The Wonderland website states the ride was built by Curtis Summers and was modelled after a ride at Coney Island.
