Long-term care home breaks ground in London

Long-term care home breaks ground in London

LONDON, ONT — Construction has started on Extendicare-London, a new 192-bed home in London, Ont.

According to the provincial government, the project was a recipient of the Construction Funding Subsidy top-up, which is part of the government’s commitment to build 58,000 new and upgraded long-term care beds across Ontario.

The new home will provide 22 new and 170 redeveloped beds and is expected to open in summer 2027.

The design is centred around six “resident home areas,” (RHA) each of which creates a familiar living space for up to 32 residents.

Each RHA will have resident rooms, a dining area, activity space and a spa room. The building will also include large common areas for residents, a café, space for family dining, a chapel, a beauty salon/barber shop and private space for families supporting residents through end-of-life care, as well as air conditioning throughout the home.
