VIA Brockville Station renos begin

VIA Rail Canada has started a renovation project to transform its station in Brockville, Ont., which was originally built in 1872.

Renovations to the station include a new roof, a new building envelope, new lighting and finishes, door and window replacement, the installation of an automatic door and other accessibility improvements for people with disabilities.

In addition, a building adjacent to the station will be demolished and a passenger shelter will be built in its place.

The work is expected to be completed by November 2014 and will create 12 full-time and part-time jobs.

The renovations to Brockville station are part of a nationwide project to improve VIA Rail stations and infrastructure.

The work is being funded through the Government of Canada’s capital funding, totaling more than one billion dollars since 2007, which is the largest investment of its kind in VIA Rail history.
