MONTREAL—During a recent Board of Trade of Metropolitan Montreal luncheon the president and CEO of Pomerleau Inc. delivered a speech outlining, “Life After the Charbonneau Commission.”
Pierre Pomerleau’s speech examined the potential ‘collateral’ impacts on the industry, as well as the positive outcomes that are a result, but also put forth his recommendations for change, explains a news brief on Pomerleau’s website.
He suggested an industry-wide investment in technology, judiciously choosing contract modes for project, encouraging companies to use local talent, adopting a ‘Buy Quebec/Buy Canadian Act,’ similar to what is in place in the United States and lastly recommended pushing for legislation for a Prompt Payment Act.
"Mr. Pomerleau also strongly encouraged industry leaders to help bring pride back to the construction and engineering fields by encouraging young engineers and giving them a chance to shine," the website reads.
The Charbonneau Commission, is an inquiry on the awarding and management of public contracts in the industry, looking into potential collusion and corruption.
The Canadian Press recently reported that the inquiry had resumed sitting, the hearings under a publication ban. The commission is drafting its final report and is hearing from some of the witnesses "who face blame and want to defend themselves."
Then final report is slated to be complete in November.
