Richmond Hill mall celebrates opening of $90-million expansion
Sporting Life (40,000 square feet) and H&M (21,000 square feet) have already moved into new space at the renovated Hillcrest Mall in Richmond Hill with more new tenants to come. -

RICHMOND HILL, ONT.—Hillcrest Mall of Richmond Hill, Ont. recently celebrated the opening of a $90-million-plus renovation and expansion with PCL recognized as a significant contractor on the build.

Mall owner Oxford Properties launched the new South Wing on Oct. 20.

New tenants include Sporting Life (40,000 square feet) and H&M (21,000 square feet), while Aritzia (6,600 square feet) and Pandora (1,000 square feet) are set to open in November, joining Sephora, ‘M’ Marciano and Hudson’s Bay.

Rockport will become part of the Hillcrest lineup in 2017.

PCL’s scope of work involved the demolition of former retail spaces and return to base building for 97,000 square feet of new tenant space at the south side of the property, as well as the provision of new roofing assembly and construction of a new exterior facade, mall corridor and south entrance to the mall, explained a media statement.

"As our construction management partner, PCL understood the critical importance of our tenants’ needs and expectations and worked proactively to minimize construction impacts, while delivering the highest quality to provide our guests with a modern and vibrant shopping experience in the heart of Richmond Hill," said Brian Marentette, Hillcrest Mall general manager.

PCL Constructors Canada Inc. manager of building revitalization and retail Matt Stainton commented, "We would like to congratulate all the subcontractors, suppliers and workers involved in the project for their roles in bringing this transformation to life."

Last year, Hillcrest completed the expansion of Hudson’s Bay, which increased from 39,000 square feet to 119,000 square feet with the addition of a new facade.
