Smith to lead APEGBC

Professional geoscientist Tim Smith, a 17-year veteran of the industry who specializes in slope hazard assessment, geotechnical investigations and risk analysis, is the new president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (APEGBC).

VANCOUVER

Professional geoscientist Tim Smith, a 17-year veteran of the industry who specializes in slope hazard assessment, geotechnical investigations and risk analysis, is the new president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of B.C. (APEGBC).

Smith was formally inducted as APEGBC’s 2006/2007 president at the association’s 87th annual general meeting in Victoria.

Squamish-based Smith currently does consulting work for the resource, transportation and government sectors as well as working with engineering and legal firms in Canada, the USA, Scotland and Australia. He is registered as a professional both in B.C. and Alberta as well as a Licensed Engineering Geologist in the state of Washington.

His previous positions with APEGBC include: vice president of APEGBC’s council for the 2005/2006 term, chair of the Joint Practice Board for APEGBC and the Association of BC Forest Professionals, and chair of the division of engineers and geoscientists in the forest sector.

Other elected executive members of council are Steve Graham, P.Eng., P. Geo, PhD, who will serve as vice-president and Bob Ito, P.Eng., PhD, who steps down to become past president.

Councilors elected for a two-year term are: Lindsay Bottomer, P.Geo. (North Vancouver), Emily Cheung, P.Eng. (Prince George), Guy Lemieux, P.Eng., (Richmond), Margaret Li, P.Eng., PhD, (Burnaby), and Kevin Turner, P.Eng. (Kamloops)

Government appointees are: Roy Emperingham, MPA, CHRP (Sidney),

Joan Hansen, OD, (Delta), Marilyn Pattison, PhD, (Victoria), and Lawrence Woo, CA (Vancouver).
