McKenna to speak on green buildings
Federal Minister of Infrastructure and Communities Catherine McKenna has scheduled an announcement on green community buildings today at noon EDT. She will be joined by Garth Frizzell, president of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Home prices rose 14.1 per cent year over year
According to the Royal LePage House Price Survey released today, the aggregate price of a home in Canada increased 14.1 per cent year-over-year to $749,165 in the first quarter of 2021. Royal LePage is forecasting that the aggregate price of a home in Canada will increase 13.5 per cent to $805,000 in the fourth quarter of 2021 compared to the same quarter last year.
Working from home easier than expected: survey
An Environics Institute study released today reveals that more than three out of five people say working from home is easier than they expected, with the same number liking it better and finding it less stressful than working at their usual workplace. Two out of five expressed concerns about juggling work and family responsibilities while working from home. Young workers aged 18 to 24 (56 per cent), immigrants (44 per cent), workers of colour (46 per cent) and Indigenous workers (60 per cent) are all more likely than average to worry that working from home will negatively impact their career.
Vestcor buys into Crown Realty
Crown Realty Partners announced yesterday that Vestcor Inc. has acquired a minority interest in the firm. Crown is a national commercial real estate investment and management firm with over $2 billion in assets. Vestcor is a New Brunswick-based investment manager and pension and employee benefits administrator with approximately $19 billion in assets under management.
