Long-time Bird industry leader Charette retires from board

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — Bird Construction has announced that Paul Charette, the former president and CEO of the firm, has retired from his position as independent director on the board.

Charette did not seek re-election at the company’s annual meeting held on May 9. The total number of board members has been reduced from 12 to 11.

Charette joined Bird in 1976 as a project co-ordinator and by 1988 he had become president and COO. He was appointed CEO in 1991, a position he held until his retirement in September 2008. He continued to serve as chairman of the board from 2001 to 2021.

He also served the industry in various capacities. Charette was chair of the Ontario General Contractors Association, chair of the Toronto Construction Association advisory committee and chair of the Canadian Construction Association in 2009.

“On behalf of Bird’s board of directors, management, employees and stakeholders, I extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Charette for his invaluable contributions and unwavering commitment to the company. With an exceptional tenure spanning over 47 years, his legacy will endure through the generations of individuals he inspired in the construction industry,” stated Paul Raboud, chair of the board of directors, in a statement.
