Mitsui High-tec to invest in Brantford EV motor cores plant

Mitsui High-tec to invest in Brantford EV motor cores plant

BRANTFORD — Mitsui High-tec (Canada), a manufacturer of motor cores used in electric vehicles, has announced it will spend $102.3 million to build a new 103,500-square-foot manufacturing facility in Brantford, Ont.

Since opening its first Ontario facility in 2017, the firm has expanded twice to increase production capacity and is now the only motor core parts manufacturer for EVs and hybrid vehicles in Canada, stated a release.

The provincial government will contribute $3.1 million through Invest Ontario, the province’s investment support agency.

“Ontario has been a great place for Mitsui High-tec (Canada) to settle and build,” stated the firm’s president Yasushi Harada in the release.

“Brantford has specifically been a great place to expand into, as there is a healthy job force and space for development. We are looking forward to continuing to foster our relationship with the region of Brantford and Province of Ontario in this next phase of expansion.”

Over the last two-and-a-half years, Ontario has attracted $25 billion in investments from global automakers, parts suppliers and manufacturers of electric vehicle batteries and battery materials according to a government tally.
