Leaders take the stage for English debate
All three main federal leaders are in the Ottawa region today, with Election Day 11 days away. NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh, Conservative Leader Erin O’Toole and Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau will all participate in the English-language debate in Gatineau, Que. starting at 9 p.m. Singh will also visit local children’s shops in Gatineau.
Lumber production drops in June
Statistics Canada reported today that national lumber production by sawmills decreased 0.02 per cent from May to June to 4,928.2 thousand cubic metres. Production was 1.1 per cent higher than in June 2020. Sawmills shipped 4,777.5 thousand cubic metres of lumber in June, down 3.7 per cent from May and down 0.7 per cent from June 2020.
Brookfield increases share ownership in Inter Pipeline
Brookfield Infrastructure and Inter Pipeline Ltd. announced last week that Brookfield will acquire all remaining Inter Pipeline common shares. Upon payment for the shares, Brookfield will increase its ownership of Inter Pipeline to 76.4 per cent. Inter Pipeline is a petroleum transportation and natural gas liquids processing business based in Calgary. Toronto-based Brookfield is a division within Brookfield Asset Management, an asset manager with over US$625 billion of assets under management.
ParticleOne debuts in building science sector
Guelph, Ont.-based engineering firm RDWI today announced the launch of ParticleOne, a new company that will offer services and develop technology to measure, track and reduce COVID risks inside buildings. A statement explained, “By applying building science, data analytics and computer modelling, ParticleOne creates an accurate profile of a space and offers clear, science-based guidance and solutions.” Services will include expertise in building science, air flow ventilation and viral transmission.
