TORONTO — Debris flying off buildings and a crane collapse that occurred at a construction site today are just some of the numerous reports that are developing in the wake of extremely strong winds.
According to various media reports, a crane collapsed at a site near Erin Mills Parkway and Eglinton Avenue West in Mississauga, Ont. No injuries have been reported.
The Ministry of Labour (MOL) has been notified and an inspector and an engineer are en route to the site. The investigation is ongoing, the MOL reports.
Other reports suggest multiple power outages, downed trees and debris flying off a roof near Spadina Avenue and College Street.
According to the Regional Municipality of Durham, the public is being asked to avoid the area around its headquarters at 605 Rossland Rd. E. in Whitby until further notice because there is a danger of “roofing debris hazards.” Engineers are investigating the issue.
According to a weather alert issued for Toronto, wind gusts of 90 km/h were expected today, along with scattered flurries.
