EllisDon welcomes Ukrainian refugee workers

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. — EllisDon is opening its doors to qualified Ukrainian refugees.

A statement issued by the firm’s president and CEO Geoffrey Smith and posted on LinkedIn recently said, “EllisDon is extending an invitation to any qualified Ukrainian refugee to join us now for a great career.

“We will work to find immediate employment to suit their qualifications, and will strive to work with our union brothers and sisters to place qualified tradespeople on projects within our industry.

“We are an industry in need of great people, and would like to help the great people of Ukraine.”

The statement was quickly supported by LinkedIn followers.

“This is a terrific match between EllisDon, one of Canada’s Best Employers, and the courageous Ukrainian skilled trades, engineers and business leaders,” posted Rob Ellis, president of MySafeWork.

“Well done Geoff! Thanks for opening up this door of opportunity.”

Lisa Coyne, principal at Golder, added, “Thanks for showing what companies can do to change the world for the better. So much respect for EllisDon’s leadership in the corporate world, first in donations to support humanitarian aid and now with this offer.”

This is a wonderful opportunity for Ukrainians and EllisDon is doing something that could meaningfully help a lot of people in great need. But where are the offers like this to refugees from countries such as Syria and Afghanistan?
