CALEDON, ONT. – Construction is underway for the replacement of Caledon East Public School.
The new facility will address the needs of a rapidly expanding residential area, explains a release. Originally built in 1971 and expanded in 1998 to serve 254 students, the existing Caledon East Public School can no longer accommodate the area’s growing population.
Thus, the Ministry of Education awarded $32.4 million in Capital Priorities funding to Peel District School Board for the construction of this new school which has been designed to accommodate up to 650 students.
Highlights of the build include a child care centre, which will be a four-room facility offering licensed child care spaces for 73 children (one infant room, one toddler room and two preschool rooms), and kindergarten rooms, with six dedicated rooms to support early learners.
The facility will be constructed by Quad Pro Construction Inc. based on designs by MG Architects Inc.
Completion is scheduled for June 2026.
The existing school building will be demolished in July and August 2026, and the new facility will open its doors to students and staff in September 2026.
