CIPH, CABS promote heating, plumbing careers

TORONTO — In an effort to raise awareness about the wide range of careers available in the plumbing and heating industry, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing and Heating (CIPH) partnered with the Canadian Association of Business Students (CABS) to sponsor JDC Central.

JDC Central was a recent event hosted by Carleton University in Ottawa that brought business students together from across the country to participate in a multi-faceted competition that included academic cases for a variety of business disciplines, parliamentary style debates, sports tournaments, social competitions and charity contributions.

"Recruiting talent into our industry remains a priority for many of our members," said Ralph Suppa, president and general manager of the CIPH, in a statement. "We want to attract people interested in accounting, engineering, marketing, sales and a whole host of other career choices.

"By engaging students at these events, we’re targeting the best of the best, who may not completely understand the exciting opportunities in our industry today and for the future."

The CIPH had a significant presence in the career fair portion of the event, explains the release, and representatives also had an opportunity to address a large student audience as a speaker series sponsor.

"What we’ve come to learn in partnering with CIPH is that the country’s plumbing and heating industry is meeting the environmental challenges of tomorrow with real-world solutions today," said Trevor Green, CABS president. "Students participating at these events will learn that there are significant career paths for all types of graduates and employment seekers."
