TORONTO — Building materials supply company G&L Group has donated $15,000 towards construction and engineering technology scholarships at George Brown College.
The gift was presented in honour of Joe Lamanna, the company’s founding member and president of aggregates. Lamanna and his wife Lucy started G&L in 1970 using a single truck to deliver concrete and stone.
Nearly five decades later, G&L is still a family-owned business and a Canadian success story that is supplying the materials, manpower and technology needed for building communities, states a release issued by George Brown College.
“For the last 47 years, I have seen my mom and dad work tirelessly to create and build G&L Group,” said Pat Lamanna, Joe’s son and president of salt, soil and waste.
“We want to recognize students who share similar values as my dad. We hope to encourage students to continue working hard so that they can give back to our community in the same way, one day.”
The G&L Group Scholarship Award in Honour of Joe Lamanna will be awarded to two full-time students each year for the next three years.
Each student will receive a $2,500 scholarship. Every year, one student will be selected from the Construction Engineering Technology program and another from the Civil Engineering Technology program or the Honours Bachelor of Technology (Construction Management) program.
