Carpenters’ to pause for Thunder Bay worker, victim of COVID-19

Carpenters’ to pause for Thunder Bay worker, victim of COVID-19

THUNDER BAY, ONT. — Members of the Carpenters’ District Council of Ontario (CDC) have been asked to pause for a moment of silence on May 1 to remember David Tschirsch, who died of COVID-19 on April 19.

Tschirsch was a 17-year member of Carpenters’ Local 1669 in Thunder Bay.

According to Facebook posts by Carpenters’ Local 27 and members of his family, Tschirsch was brought to the hospital April 4 with respiratory problems and was later diagnosed with COVID-19.

His condition deteriorated throughout the following weeks and he died 15 days later.

Tschirsch was said to have been diagnosed with leukemia in recent years but had battled to survive that illness.

He was described as a hard worker intent on providing for his family.

Tschirsch, 52, is survived by his wife, four children and four grandchildren.

“We are asking that each of our members observe a moment of silence at noon on Friday, May 1, 2020 to pay our respects to Brother Tschirsch,” stated the post from Carpenters’ Local 27.

“In these trying times, the CDC asks that each of our members remain vigilant in protecting their health, and that of those around them.

“In solidarity, now more than ever.”
