TORONTO – Support Ontario Youth (SOY) has announced the completion of another season of its Tools in the Trades Boot Camp, which saw 1,089 participants engaged in hands-on training.

Those who took part explored skilled trades career pathways and connected with industry professionals, a release reads.

“As a woman who is new to the trades, my experiences at Tools in the Trades helped me overcome barriers within myself as I worked toward obtaining an apprenticeship,” said participant Amanda Vey in a statement.

“Through guided learning and time on the tools, I gained new skills and faced my fears.”

According to SOY, program achievements for this season included:

  • 71 participants securing employment, with more career opportunities in progress.
  • Top attended trades: 313D Residential Air Conditioning Systems Mechanic – 107 per cent of target achieved; 309A Electrician – Construction and Maintenance – 113 per cent of target achieved.
  • Participant satisfaction: The program received a 94 per cent overall satisfaction rating.

“Our mission has always been to provide a gateway into the skilled trades through hands-on learning and direct industry connections,” said Melanie Winter, executive director of SOY. “This year’s success demonstrates the ongoing need for accessible training opportunities and the impact they have on future apprentices.”
